Stainless Steel Window Fabrication: Custom Frames

2026-08-19

The Window That Fails First — and Costs the Most

Ask any contractor in a coastal market what fails fastest on a seaside villa: the answer is almost always the windows.

Aluminum frames pit and corrode within a few years of salt-air exposure. Powder-coated steel chips at the corners, and once the coating breaks, rust creeps under it silently. Vinyl warps in high heat and turns brittle in cold. And for custom openings — oversized glass walls, arched bays, historic renovations — stock sizes simply don't exist, forcing awkward infills and expensive trim work that leaks air and water.

Every failed window is a triple loss: the replacement cost, the water damage behind it, and the client relationship that goes with it.

There is one material that solves all of it: stainless steel, fabricated properly. It's why marine architects, coastal villa owners, and commercial developers increasingly spec custom stainless steel windows for the projects that can't afford to fail.

Step-by-Step: How Custom Stainless Steel Windows Are Fabricated

Getting a window right starts in the workshop, not on the job site. Here's the fabrication process behind a precision stainless steel window frame.

1. Measurement & Engineering Design

Every project starts with exact site measurements and code requirements — American standard window sizes, egress openings, wind-load and impact ratings for storm zones. Our engineers design the frame profile, glass rebate depth, drainage paths, and hardware layout in 3D before a single sheet is cut.

2. Material Selection

  • 304 stainless steel for standard interior and sheltered exterior applications
  • 316 marine-grade stainless for coastal, poolside, and industrial environments
  • Brushed or mirror finish specified by the client, from 400-grit satin to full mirror polish

Sheet gauge is engineered per panel size and wind load — not guessed.

3. CNC Laser Cutting

Profiles, mitered corners, hardware slots, and drainage weep holes are laser-cut in one pass with ±0.3 mm tolerance. Clean, burr-free cut edges mean perfect 45° miters at every corner and consistent geometry across the whole production batch.

4. Press Brake Forming & Rolling

Long frame members are formed on CNC press brakes; curved and arched sections are roll-formed to a continuous radius. Precise forming is what allows slim profiles to carry the structural loads of large glass panels.

5. TIG Welding — The Cornerstone of a Watertight Frame

Corners and joints are TIG welded with argon back-purge protection, producing dense, porosity-free welds that are structurally invisible after finishing. A welded stainless frame is a single monolithic unit — no mechanically fastened seams to loosen, no gaskets to fail.

6. Grinding & Polishing

Every weld is ground flush and the full surface is brought to the specified finish — uniform brushed grain or mirror polish. The result is a frame that looks like a single piece of metal, with no weld lines, no scratches, no fingerprints hiding in the grain.

7. Assembly, Hardware & Quality Inspection

Frames are assembled with stainless hardware, checked for squareness within 2 mm on the diagonal, and dry-fitted with glass samples to verify rebate tolerance. Air and water infiltration tests are performed on sample units per project specification before shipping.

Our Factory Advantage

With 18 years in stainless steel sheet metal fabrication, our workshop produces window frames for villa developers, commercial contractors, and facade companies:

  • All processes in-house: laser cutting, bending, TIG welding, grinding, polishing — one accountable partner, no subcontractor quality gaps
  • US market experience: we fabricate to American standard sizes, egress requirements, and storm-rated specifications
  • Material traceability: 304/316 certificates shipped with every order
  • OEM/ODM ready: your profile design, your hardware, your finish — we build to spec and protect your brand
  • Export-grade packing: frames separated, corner-protected, and palletized for container transport without a single scratch

5 Questions to Ask Any Window Frame Fabricator

  1. "What stainless grade do you use for coastal projects?" — 316 marine grade is non-negotiable within 3 km of salt water.
  2. "Are your corners TIG welded with back-purge, or mechanically joined?" — Welded monolithic corners are the difference between a 5-year and a 40-year frame.
  3. "How do you verify squareness and glass rebate tolerance?" — Ask for their QC numbers, not their promises.
  4. "Can you fabricate to our profile design (OEM)?" — If not, you're limited to their catalog.
  5. "Do you ship an approval sample before bulk production?" — Any "no" should end the conversation.
